The REAL Secret...

Everyone has challenges. Nobody is immune to them. Too often, we perceive challenges in life as being of a financial nature only, as for the majority of us, challenges=lack of money. However, they could be of a relationship nature, a health issue, a crisis of faith, or a lack of trust-to name but a few. It is at times when one is facing a challenge that they must not give in to the poison of lethargy and self-pity. If there is one thing that I have learned from my years of martial arts training and subsequent growth in the field of reality-based personal protection training it is the value of perseverence and attitudinal conditioning. If you want it, you can get it-but it won't be given to you. You must know your strengths and weaknesses-if you are a negative thinker by nature, DO NOT attempt to re-wire yourself by walking around saying things like, "everything is perfect," or "I have everything I need right now." Such affirmations hinder you because while you may say them, your mind knows that it isn't true. Result: you do not achieve what you want, and you grow disillusioned and bitter, and eventually settle for whatever you get.

That is not to say that positive thinking is useless. NOT AT ALL. The proper mentality is essential for anything. Being able to find positives in any situation is the hallmark of a truly successful person. If that person is a negative or pessimistic person by choice, they succeed by being able to harness or channel that "negativity" into productivity. In doing so they have in essence found the positive in their situation, rather than standing in a thunderstorm saying, "it is a nice sunny perfect day." Bull. If something sucks, there is nothing wrong with saying so. What is wrong is to allow that to keep you from finding a motivating factor in that suckiness to urge you to become proactive and improve your situation...which is probably why every glassy-eyed, hypnotized Oprah disciple bought the book, The Secret, read it for a few weeks, and then threw it on the heap of books from her "Book Club" collecting dust in their spare bedroom. They would be better served reading Think and Grow Rich and The Art of War back-to-back.
In training, especially in a self defense encounter, the "freeze factor" is the biggest hurdle to overcome. If people have time to process what is going on, many times they become docile, almost incredulous, thoughts of "this isn't happening," racing through their minds. It is only through proper training, adressing the factors of adrenaline dump, fear response, fight-or-flight mechanisms, ansd so forth, can one quickly process a situation and act accordingly.

If someone attacks you, through proper training in the White Collar Warrior Self Protection Skills System, your body will react based on the drills you have done, and your mind will more quickly analyze what is happening, and out of that suckiness, you will find a motivation to remove yourself from the situation...your family...your children....your whatever. THAT is the real miracle of positive thinking.

Until next time,

Bobby
