Everyone should know of this story...

You cannot help but see tragic, sad and overall depressing things on the news or in the newspaper.  Often times it makes you disgusted, other times it honestly doesn't quite register because you're hit with so many similar stories from all angles.  Occasionally, you come across something that just shocks, revolts and outrages you all at once.
Denise Amber Lee was a mother and a wife who was abducted, raped and murdered by a man named Michael King on January 17, 2008 in Florida.  What makes this case so unique is that five 9-1-1 calls were made that day, including one by Lee to police using King's cell phone.  Due to incompetence and poor communication between dispatchers and police, help was unable to arrive in time.  Two witnesses made calls, one who saw Lee try to escape King's car and be forced back in by King, and another who saw Lee screaming and thrashing in the backseat of King's car.  Still, authorities were not abkle to sync up, and a short time later, King shot Lee in the head and buried her in a shallow grave.
This cosmic failure in the emergency response system ushered in the Denise Lee Law, which requires mandatory training and certification for dispatcher personnel.
However.....
Denise Lee is still dead.  her husband Nathan lost his wife, and her children have lost a mother.

Too often in society, we live with a notion that because people are around and everything is so "high tech" that we have this safety net around us.

We believe our neighbors will always be there for us.
We believe that 911 will bail us out should we need them.
We believe that strangers will step in and help us if they see us in trouble.

For the most part, we are right.
BUT....
We cannot, CANNOT rely on any of the aforementioned as a "safety net" for our own personal safety.

I can only hope that should some sicko ever try to attack another woman, man or child, he will get a good healthy dose of "you f***ed with the wrong bull."

Do me a favor-learn from the mistakes of others-make yourself that much more self-reliant.

Please take my words to heart-this story terrifies me.
